It's true and I am the first to admit it... I have a serious addiction to jewelry findings. Salvage from old jewelry pieces, beads, brass stampings, beads, large glass jewels, beads, filigrees, beads, chains, beads, wire...... did I mention beads?! I just can't get enough!!! Scouring rummage sales, flea markets, searching the web for hours on end in pure bliss as I stumble across bead after bead that I must have... have to have... just like the hundreds...OK OK if you make me count ALL the beads, sigh... thousands of other finding I have already collected!
As I went to my studio with my latest acquisition of beads - practically dancing in glee as I entered the room - I suddenly stopped and looked around. Well, first because I love my space and secondly because I had no earthly idea where I was actually going to put my latest finds and as I tried to wedge them in between the reds and the blues, because they were purple of course, I made a vow. Not just any vow but one that would challenge my most creative thoughts not to mention probably throw me into bead withdraw.... I vowed to buy nothing new, yes NOTHING... for 3 months and only use what I already had on hand to create amazing jewelry.
Are you a beadaholic? Am I the only one that loves the way beads feel in your hand and acts like a little kid on Christmas when that package arrives in the mail with the new goodies?! Does the fabric store sales staff jump for joy when they see you enter or your local yarn store insist you have already purchased at least one of everything they have in stock? Is paper supply company begging you to slow down and save a tree? AND are you going to leave me to suffer alone???
Take the challenge!
"Use only what you have on hand and create something really amazing" and when you are done with your amazing creations

I love to find old jewelry and make new pieces with them too. I had an old strand of pearls that I never used and i decided to make some new bracelets and necklaces with it. They all came out great. Glad to have your creative mind on Artfire.

What a great challenge! I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this. But it's so true... supplies just call my name!! I come home with something new... paper, paint, something... then I say to myself, "I already have so much, did I *really* need to buy new?"
I have a lot of bead supplies but can't seem to find them since we moved but I need beads to work so I order them. We don't find very much down here that is salvagable at the no good flea markets and such down here. I envy you all the lovely flea markets.
Happy Mother's Day !
